展览除了展示20本“德国最美图书”，还邀请了17位中国的艺术家以作品与之对话。书籍设计师大部分的创作并不是肆意妄为的，他们需要在文本的框架中寻找可能性，在作者、出版方的条框中获得相对的自由，然后通过设计的方式去表达自己的观点。相反，艺术家则不同，他们可以更加“任性”地去表达，不断重新阐释并定义界限，久而久之，这种“任性”也变得理所应当。正如这个展览的名字：有框的都是书，没框的不是书。在这里，“框”是一个中性词，在面对纸质书这一命题时，设计师与艺术家必定有不同的想法，这有利于了解边界并打破它，我们乐意看到这样的碰撞，甚至争辩。
